The IFS approach to Manufacturing

Run your business your way

IFS solutions are designed to enable you to build, configure, use and pay for software in the best way for your business. And that includes where it’s deployed – whether that’s to the cloud, as software-as-a-service (SaaS), or on-premise.

IFS Cloud

If your choice is cloud, the IFS Cloud, deployed on Microsoft® Azure®, provides a full-service, managed single-tenant offering where we manage your cloud infrastructure, operating system, database, middleware and IFS products.

IFS Applications has been tested and optimized to work seamlessly on Microsoft Azure. When you choose IFS Cloud, you sign one contract and IFS delivers one seamlessly integrated service —it is as simple as that.

Software-as-a-Service

If your business needs greater flexibility, our SaaS solution is completely managed by IFS in the cloud and gives you the freedom to easily scale up and down to meet changing business circumstances. You pay through a monthly subscription so your software investment is an operating rather than a capital expense.

On-Premise

It may not always be possible or pragmatic to migrate all systems to the cloud, and we continue to deliver on-premise with a traditional perpetual license model that lets you deploy on your own hardware or through a different cloud vendor.

Open and easy

Some major ERP offerings are essentially like a blank slate. You can make them do literally anything you want, but they require extensive consulting time and expense to conform to your process flow and business. Other, lower-tier solutions are so rigid and defined that they limit what you can do with them. IFS gives you a middle ground. IFS solutions contain industry best practices and business processes that you can adopt as-is or configure to meet your exacting needs. These processes are baked into our applications across our product offering and are augmented by business accelerator tools for fast, reliable success in the most demanding industries. Critical manufacturing functionality—including inventory and non-inventory quality management, demand-driven MRP and maintenance management—are available as embedded components. This means less consulting and systems integration expense not just from implementation, but over a decade or more of use.

Even if IFS software is facilitating your entire business value chain, you may need to share data with other technologies. We build our solutions around highly useable application program interfaces (APIs) that can be opened up to data from the internet of things (IoT), third-party data services and best-of-breed applications.

We are not out to lock everyone else out, penalize you for accessing data in your IFS solutions or force you to buy things you do not want. Our goal is to make sure you can easily, for instance, get the right events out of your SCADA and into your IFS software so you can start building business value around that data. We give manufacturers choices in how they purchase and run their software—on premise or in the cloud. Through a perpetual license or by subscription. And while IFS solutions enable you to run frequently-queried parts of your database—or the entire database—in-memory instead of in a disc-based database, we will not force you to run your entire solution in this fashion if it does not make sense for you.

Project-Based Manufacturing

The IFS solution goes several levels deeper than lower-tier ERP solutions, so you get the project-driven tools required for engineer-to-order (ETO) manufacturing and participation in program-driven supply chains common in aerospace and defense, automotive and industrial machinery. This means you can meet the needs of a dynamic market with less consulting and system integration time—all thanks to a predictable, reliable ERP solution designed to simplify rather than complicate your business.

Recognized as a leader

Industry analysts

We believe it’s one thing to say you’re the best, and it’s entirely another for industry experts to say you’re the best. We’re proud that, for years, analysts from some of the world’s most renowned research and advisory firms have recognized IFS’s product and service leadership across our solution portfolio.

IFS has been named a Leader in the Gartner Magic Quadrant for Field Service Management Software for the fourth time in a row[1]. Widely respected research firm IDC has named IFS a Leader in its 2019 SaaS/Cloud-based EAM Applications MarketScape Vendor Assessment[2]. IDC also evaluated IFS as a Major Player in the 2019 SaaS/Cloud-based Operational ERP Applications MarketScape Vendor Assessment, achieving the highest placement for ERP Capabilities[3].

We’ve seen IFS’s recognition across the global industry analyst community continue to rise. This is not only a reflection of our focus on the customer as our guide for developing great solutions, but most importantly, it’s a reflection of very satisfied customers who have partnered with to use technology to propels their business.

IDC business value study for manufacturing

What is the true value of ERP for manufacturers? If you’re familiar with IFS, you’ll hopefully know that we are deeply driven by the goal of bringing our customers significant and measurable business value with our enterprise solutions.

To validate and express this value, we recently worked with IDC to conduct a study involving several IFS users from different industry verticals, including probably our largest and most diverse customer industry, manufacturing.

The study revealed several significantly positive results that prove to us and to the market that IFS software does, indeed, make a significant and measurable difference. The value of the solutions manifests itself in such ways as a proven 18 percent productivity improvement, a 14 percent faster delivery of products/services and an impressive $25.8 million increase in revenue[1].

Your digital transformation journey

Bring digital to life

Digital methods and processes are making huge changes to businesses in the manufacturing sector and beyond. And with competition on the rise for manufacturers and industrial companies, it’s more important than ever to act now.

We’re seeing supply chains being further extended, which increases complexity. And new market entrants from around the world are offering fierce competition to traditional markets. These price and margin pressures combined with increased supply chain complexity require efficiency not just within your four walls, but up and down your supply chain and in your collaborative relationships with customers. Manufacturers need to increase their level of sophistication in order to achieve and then maintain the speed, agility and responsiveness necessary to meet the demands of modern customer expectations. Success is now often driven as much by non-tangibles service delivery, transparency and sustainability as the quality and design characteristics of the product itself.

To keep up, manufacturers need a software partner who can help them change incrementally and continuously instead of forcing them into major technology rollouts and “big bang” implementations.

Your manufacturing business must evolve. You must evolve to become more data driven, more service oriented and more proactive. You must learn to take advantage of disruptive technologies like quantum computing, 5G and AI. Discover the steps you can take, with IFS by your side, to become more connected and technologically capable. IFS will give you a solid foundation on which to build and take you through the incremental changes necessary. Together, we will come to do business in new ways by leveraging advanced technologies in your business software system of record.

There is no linear approach to getting digitalization right, because you won’t have the exact same needs as every other manufacturing business.

We’ve detailed five pillars that cover the most common challenges that organizations bring to us. IFS will work with you to create your own organic journey through digital enhancement—to help you become increasingly more connected and enrich the lifeblood of your business. This guide provides detail on this more natural approach to meeting your needs.

Intelligent and autonomous business

As we journey into the future with our customers, IFS is changing the way enterprise resource planning (ERP), service management and enterprise asset management (EAM) software helps our customers succeed by building in disruptive technologies throughout our applications. For many years, IFS software has used technology approaches like artificial intelligence (AI) and the internet of things (IoT) in specific parts of the application. What we are engaged in now is harnessing a core set of these enabling technologies that will unlock transformation and disruption for our customers across their business. Customers will be able to apply technologies like AI and robotic process automation (RPA) within the application to analyse, simulate, model and even automate any part of their business.

We are building out and deploying many of the crucial underpinnings and enablers that our vision is built on by making strategic investments including:

  • Intuitive user experience
  • A layered application architecture that enables seamless and frequent Evergreen software updates by automatically applying your custom configurations to new versions of the software
  • Consistent and predictable use of RESTful application program interfaces (APIs), giving you a universal integration platform for other applications and technologies

IFS and our customers are on this journey towards the future together. We have a proud track record of delivering what we say we are going to deliver, and you can learn more in our vision statement to see where we are headed together.
