The existing telemetry was aging out, and sharing data across a mix of analog and digital connections was slow and unreliable. Data drifted out of sync between sites, and historical reporting couldn't be reconciled against a single standard. KCGM needed one thing above all: a way to make the system accurate and consistent, sitewide.
IFS built the fix on two industry-standard technologies: IP networks and real-time historians. A wide area network now links the remote huts to a central location over upgraded legacy connections, with new broadband links to end users. Ethernet-based dataloggers at each hut record and transmit data files back to a central server.
At the core of the system, historian software paired with a custom data interface lets the server ingest high-speed data from every site. Users query one common source instead of reconciling multiple versions, which is what makes reporting accurate in the first place. For higher-level reporting, KCGM integrated that environmental data into IFS.ai Operational Intelligence, giving the team full visibility into real-time and historical performance across every location, supported by custom visualizations like wind vanes and plume tracking.
