Origin Energy operates the BassGas facility on behalf of a joint venture that includes multiple ownership partners. That role comes with two full-time jobs bundled into one: run a complex, remote processing plant, and meet a dense set of contractual obligations layered on top of it, including onshore and offshore surveillance, production and joint venture accounting, inventory management, gas nominations, and truck scheduling.
Origin Energy needed a system built for both jobs at once: a single, web-based environment to plan, execute, and monitor the full supply chain for gas, LPG, and condensate, without pulling staff away from running the plant itself.
IFS.ai Operational Intelligence delivered one web-based environment covering the full supply and delivery cycle for gas, LPG, and condensate.
Origin Energy's BassGas plant sits near Lang Lang, Victoria, processing raw gas piped in from unmanned offshore wells in Bass Strait. The facility produces roughly 20 PJ of sales gas per year, plus matching volumes of LPG and condensate. Sales gas flows into the VENCorp pipeline network; LPG and condensate reach the Victorian and South Australian markets by truck.
BassGas is owned by a joint venture that includes Origin Energy, which also operates the facility. That dual role means Origin Energy carries both the operational load of a remote, complex plant and the contractual load that comes with joint ownership: onshore and offshore surveillance and diagnostics, production and joint venture accounting, inventory management, gas nominations, and truck scheduling.
Origin Energy needed one system, not several, that would let facility staff manage those obligations without stepping away from the core job of running the plant. The brief was clear: a single web-based environment for planning, executing, and monitoring the entire supply and delivery chain for gas, LPG, and condensate.
IFS applied its proven products and standard project methodology to specify, design, and deliver a configured solution built on IFS.ai Operational Intelligence, engineered to scale as Origin Energy's business requirements grew.
The platform delivered a web-based data integration and visualization framework for a simplified, graphical view of production and operations; an online environment that validates both automated and manually entered data before it reaches operations for approval; an advanced calculation environment and production database with full traceability, including well allocation; and gas nomination, balancing, and truck scheduling capabilities configured to Origin Energy's operating model.
